What is sustainability? The UN definition holds up well: "sustainable development implies meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" In the 21st century, we are facing challenges to a sustainable way of life, including climate change, resource depletion, energy and food security, and loss of biodiversity. What would a sustainable Wharfedale look like? What will living in a sustainable way mean for everyday life? What will an 80 - 90% CO2 reduction mean to us? All of us, all aspects of our lives. How can we all help achieve it? What happens if we don't? This is a beginning by some of Wharfedale FOE, raising as many questions as answers. We do not claim to represent the views of FOE nationally. Contact us if you want to contribute. |
