Trains
llkley and Burley have a good train service, bus links to Otley and further up the Dale need improvement.
Increase cycle stands on the platforms
Encourage people to cycle to the station, put time limit on the surrounding streets to discourage driving
Cycling / walking
Increase cycle path coverage - cycle paths up to Addingham or the old railway?
Designate the ‘golf course’ road a ‘quiet lane’.
Quiet Lanes are a Countryside Agency initiative, which has the support of the Department for
Transport. Quiet Lanes are minor rural roads which are
appropriate for shared use by walkers, cyclists, horse riders and motorised users. They
should have low traffic flows traveling at low speeds.
Make the whole of Brook street and the Grove pedestrian and bicycle priority.
Cycleway to Menston / Otley
Hills and weather are problems. but it is a doable alternative. Encourage kids. Enjoy the challenge. Learn to cycle safely. If necessary you can get bikes that are semi electric. They have a motor/ dynamo arrangement which gets you uphill and charges the battery on the downhills.
Buses
Bus services around Menston face closure. The Leeds Skipton service now only runs to Ikley most of the time and the 962 Ilkley to Otley service closes down at 6pm. It's impractical to access Airedale hospital by public transport. (One bus per day from Ilkley)
Shuttle bus services from Addingham-Ilkley and Otley Menston should tie in with the rail services.
Share private buses, lots of private buses drop children off at school and return empty…it’s a waste. They should be networked.
Start a direct bus service to Harrogate, and
make cross West/North Yorks boundary travel cheaper and easier
Cars
Reduce the speed limit to 20mph throughout the towns and villages
Car sharing would
reduce no. of car journeys into Leeds / Bradford. Internet link showing possible journeys for ‘matching up’
Start a car club to
reduce car ownership / dependency
Reduce the town centre parking
Planes
Stop airport expansion in particular Leeds Bradford.
Encourage users of the airport to try train instead
